Journalism

SRG Members are at the vanguard in responding to America’s local journalism crisis.

As local newsrooms across the country have been eviscerated or eliminated altogether, local public radio stations and joint licensees have added more than 1,000 local journalists to their newsrooms in the past decade. In the past 10 years, SRG Member institutions have acquired local newspapers and other local/regional publications, created partnerships with other non-profit and for-profit news organizations, and created an array of new digital journalism products to meet their communities’ journalism needs. SRG develops effective and sustainable strategies for improving the quality of—and expanding the audiences for—its Members’ public service journalism.
