SRG Planning Retreat
Denver, Colorado
July 31 - August 2, 2022

Nearly 70 top executives from SRG member organizations, invited guests, and SRG's own team gathered for SRG's 2022 planning retreat. This year's discussions took up a range of measures to strengthen SRG members as they continue a transformation from public broadcast stations to multi-platorm, multi-product community institutions.

At the retreat's closing, members elevated a short list of shared activities from many compelling options that had emerged during the two days:

  • Envision our collective digital future

  • Catalyze and support engaged journalism and other innovative content initiatives

  • Support/convene music initiatives

  • Engage with NPR around network proposals and represent station interests to NPR

  • Support and amplify DEI work at the local level

  • Pursue major giving initiatives and support - at the CEO and institutional level

RETREAT PRESENTATIONS

Many of the retreat sessions were "you had to be there" events. Some were "off the record." But we are fortunate to be able to share several presentations and background material for review by those who were unable to attend the retreat and a second look for those who were on hand.

Operationalizing Engaged Journalism by Ashley Alvarado, VP Community Engagement, Southern California Public Radio.

Public Media Journalism Data Project, an update from an ongoing project by SRG, GBH, and Public Media Company to document and visualize public media's response to the ongoing crisis in local journalism.

Leveraging this critical moment in local news by Mark Fuerst, Director, Public radio Futures, reporting on Wyncote Foundation-sponsored research on how leading public media organizations are advancing their local journalism.

Major Giving Workshop by Margaret Hunt, major giving consultant. This presentation reports results from a survey of SRG members on the status of major giving and pilot results from Greater Public's major giving project.
